On Saturday, March 23, 2002, at approximately 7:20 p.m. in the area of 31931 Via Belardes, San Juan Capistrano CA, Juan Perez was shot multiple times and died as a result.
Preliminary information developed during the investigation determined that Perez was walking home from a friend’s house when a lone male subject approached him on foot and confronted him. The subject walked up to Perez on the sidewalk, discharged his weapon, and killed Perez instantly.
The suspect was seen running from the scene northbound towards Trabuco Creek. The suspect was later identified as Mario Rizo Garcia. Male Hispanic, 5’ 6” tall, 150 lbs, short black hair, and brown eyes. Garcia has the tattoo “Rizo” on the back of his neck. Garcia is also known as Mario Rizo, AKA Crazy Mario, or Loco Mario. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants. Mario Garcia is considered armed and dangerous.
